GUISELEY THEATRE WEDDING - KAT & BEN - 30TH MARCH 2019
When Kat & Ben told me all about their plans last year, I knew this was going to be one heck of a unique wedding. First off, it happened in a theatre! A 150 year old theatre in Guiseley, Yorkshire. As far as venues with character go, this one is definitely up there. The ceremony took place in the theatre itself in front of the stage and the red velvet curtains made for a striking back drop for both the ceremony and a few portraits later on! Kat arrived by car with her dad and her brother and sister helped to carry her dress as she walked into the venue.
Ben & Kat love Japan and Japanese culture, so they sprinkled that love across the wedding by using it in their table settings, treating their guests to a Japanese banquet and even having their own personalised Studio Ghibli style film poster made which hung on the wall outside (obviously as soon as I saw it I knew I’d have to use it in a portrait somehow!)
Guests were entertained with an array of retro video games and later in the evening, retro board games. I even spotted The Neighbours Game. I got that for Christmas circa 1992 and there’s actual home video footage of my losing my shit over it. Good times.
They had spent months hand crafting a LOT of paper cranes in a ton of amazing colours, again something I just had to incorporate into their portraits. They even used them as button holes! Cool idea. Ben’s friend performed novelty songs for everyone after the meal and the first dance was performed by the couple on two dance mats, which Ben had made himself from scratch! Check out Kat’s bridal shoes… a girl after my own heart.
